“Where is he?” she wondered. “He’s been late before, but never like this.”

That’s the thing about humans, they’re predictably unpredictable. Their actions make no sense. They come, they go, seemingly on some sort of schedule. Then, without warning, they disappear; often for hours, sometime for days. No explanation. No apology. It’s as if they operate in their own little narcissistic world with little regard for those who rely on them.

This particular human, though, had her troubled. She was alone, she was hungry and despite all his quirks and foibles, he had never let her go this long without eating. Perhaps something had happened to him?

Maddy picked up the phone to make the call she had so hoped to avoid, anxiously tapping each
number with her index claw. The line rang for what seemed like an eternity before someone picked up.

“Hello, China Wok?” Maddy barked into the receiver. “Where’s your delivery guy? It’s been over an hour and I will not accept soggy egg rolls!
