She was home. Finally.

Familiar surroundings, friendly faces. And love. So much love.

Yet everything seemed strange.

Most cats would dream about the solitary life she had so accidentally experienced. No one nuzzling you when you’re trying to sleep, no one shooing you off the credenza, no one exploiting your likeness on social media. And let’s not forget about the abundance of mice to chase. So many mice!

To be fair, Leia did enjoy the solitude at first. But once the initial tranquility wore off, all she could think about was her life before. Would anyone even remember her?

Now though, she was back. Her favorite resting spot had been kept clear and her favorite blanket was fresh out of the dryer. Yet, after all those years trapped in that old, abandoned footwear factory, she couldn’t get comfortable sleeping on anything other than a shoebox.

That, and she missed her imaginary friend Spalding. He was a sanity saver.
